Culinary Tales: The Salmon Story

So, my husband stumbled upon this recipe on Allrecipes back in March, and let me tell you, it’s been a culinary rollercoaster ever since! We've whipped it up for friends and family at least a dozen times. In our household, my husband’s 5-star rating is equivalent to a Michelin star. It’s quick, easy, and undeniably delicious—basically the holy trinity of cooking. That's why it snagged that coveted 5-star rating. And for those of you who might be wondering, I use gluten-free soy sauce, making it suitable for my daughter with celiac disease. So yes, even she can enjoy the fishy festivities without fear of being glutened!I typically pair it with a basic salad or Roasted Carrots topped with Limey Hot Sauce and Cotija. They are DIVINE! It's not overly spicy, but it's a tasty way to savor those carrots you have in the fridge.

I hope you'll try it, and who knows, it might just earn you a Michelin star in the process!

Ingredients:

  • 3 (12-inch) untreated cedar planks

  • ⅓ cup soy sauce

  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil

  • 1 ½ tablespoons rice vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil

  • ¼ cup chopped green onions

  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger (I used frozen crushed ginger, it's my favorite time saver)

  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic

  • 2 (2-pound) salmon fillets, skin removed

Directions:

  • Soak the cedar planks for at least 1 hour in warm water.

  • Combine the soy sauce, vegetable oil, rice vinegar, toasted sesame oil, green onions, ginger, and garlic together in a shallow baking dish.

  • Place the salmon and the soy mixture in a gallon ziplock bag and marinate for an hour in the refrigerator.

  • Place the cedar planks on hot grill for 5 minutes.

  • Then place the marinated salmon on the hot planks, close the grill lid and cook for 15 minutes or until desired doneness.
